Many wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin by making the same expression many times. These are called “expression lines” or “dynamic wrinkles”. Typical dynamic wrinkles include: “frown lines” between the eyebrows, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, and forehead lines. The presence of these lines can add years to our appearances, often making us look angry, tired or worried.
Botox® can help you control the appearance of “dynamic wrinkles”, preventing the unintended display of negative feelings, and in this way helping you express yourself more accurately.
Botox® is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein, which has the ability to very precisely relax the muscles to which it is applied. The skin over the treated muscles gradually become smoother and less wrinkled as the muscles relax. This relaxation lasts for a number of months, and then the treated muscles gradually return to their normal condition.
Botox® does not affect the nerves responsible for sensation, so there is no numbness in the treated area. You can stop Botox® treatments at any time and be confident you will gradually return to your pre-treatment appearance.
The treated muscles usually start to relax within a day or two, and reach the maximum degree of relaxation within seven-14 days. About three months following your treatment, the effects of Botox® gradually start to wear off. Because it relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, Botox® treatments can also prevent new lines from forming in the areas treated.
Botox® treatments are gentle and quick. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, so you will be able to continue with all your usual activities immediately following treatment. A small amount of discomfort may be felt when the needle is inserted and the solution is injected. This sensation lasts only a few seconds. Occasionally, patients experience some bruising at the injection site. This can easily be hidden with cosmetics, and fades away within a few days.
The average cost for a Botox® treatment can range from $130-$400. Some clients may require more Botox® injected into a specific area than others in order to obtain maximum results.
Do you find underarm sweating is significantly interfering with your daily activities and topical agents haven’t worked? You may be a candidate for Botox® treatment.
Sweat is your body’s temperature regulator. In some people, the body’s mechanism for cooling itself is overactive – so overactive that they may sweat four or five times more than is necessary or normal. When sweating is this extreme it can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, anxiety- inducing and even disabling. It can disrupt all aspects of a person’s life, from career choices and recreational activities to relationships, emotional well-being, and self-image. This kind of excessive sweating is called Hyperhidrosis and it afflicts millions of people around the world (approximately 3% of the population).
Botox® has the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical in the nervous system that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands. By blocking or interrupting this chemical messenger, Botox® “turns off” sweating at the area where it has been injected.
During the procedure, a very fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox just under the skin near the sweat glands responsible for excessive perspiration. The amount of injections given is based on your clinicians’ assessment of the area that requires treatment.
It is important to remember Botox injections do not cure Hyperhidrosis; your symptoms will return gradually. Follow-up injections are required to maintain dryness. These repeat injections may be necessary at intervals varying from seven to sixteen months.
