Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your skin and other tissues and plays an important role in giving volume to the skin, shape to the eyes and elasticity to the joints. The resilience and youthful contours of your skin owe much to hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid has a chemical structure similar in some ways to sugar, and is identical in all species and in all tissue types. Perlane™ & Restylane™ are made from Nasha gel (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid).
Perlane™ & Restylane™ can be used to smooth wrinkles and folds and give lips a fuller look. The Nasha used in Perlane™ & Restylane™ is produced by fermentation, so there is no risk of transmitting diseases between species or eliciting allergic reactions in patients who are sensitive to common foods such as: beef, chicken and eggs. Unlike Collagen, no skin testing is needed before Perlane™ & Restylane™ treatments.
The size of the Nasha particles in Perlane™ & Restylane™ are custom-tailored to match the tissue structures in the skin area being treated. Restylane Fine Lines™, for example, can be used for thin, superficial lines like vertical lip lines and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. Perlane™, on the other hand, is the largest particle available for injection and is great for melolabial folds and to add bulk to the lips.
The benefits of Perlane™ & Restylane™ treatments are typically noticeable for four-eight months. More frequently used areas, such as lips, tend to require touch-up treatments after about four months. Areas that are less frequently used may only require additional treatments after eight months to maintain the effects. Usually additional treatments require smaller amounts of Perlane™ & Restylane™ then used during your first treatment.
One treatment session takes approximately 30-45 minutes. The needles used for Perlane™ & Restylane™ are very fine. To make treatments easier occasionally people use a topical or local anesthetic to decrease the sensation felt during the treatment. The results can be seen immediately and no scars or other marks are left on the face. Redness may last one-two days following the treatment, occasionally longer in some patients. Swelling in the lips can last for up to one week.
